What does a Schedule I or II controlled substance mean?
Federal controlled substance scheduling regulates the availability of drugs in the United States. Five schedules of drugs exist, with Schedule I being the most serious. Schedule I drugs have a high potential for abuse and no accepted medical use in the United States. The schedule decreases in abuse potential and increases in medical acceptability as the scheduling continues. Schedule I drugs include marijuana, MDMA, heroin, and peyote, among many others. Schedule II drugs include cocaine, opium, amphetamines, and morphine, among others.
